I am afraid and burning out. And I'm glad about it!
Everything I have achieved in my life, I achieved after experiencing states of fear and burnout. I started pursuing design because I couldn't handle the pressure in university and tried to compete with successful friends. I began engaging in sports because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to defend myself. I even traveled to Thailand to break away from my regular life and finally start writing articles. I want to write articles because I fear the thoughts that my existence doesn't contribute anything to the world. And so, the list goes on, but I believe you understand the idea.
"Fear is the painful realization of one's own uniqueness."
β Korney Chukovsky, Russian Soviet writer
Burnout and fear are an integral part of everyone's life. Every individual desires more, and consequently, every individual will fear that they won't be able to achieve it. Acknowledging one's weaknesses and fears is not only normal but also highly beneficial. And no one is immune to this. If someone hasn't experienced this, they probably don't find what they do as important.
Let's explore basic fears, and I'll try to explain that not everything is as bad and can even be good.
π "I am not good at what I do, and I am not getting better."
In order to recover as an artist, you must be willing to be a bad artist. Give yourself permission to be a begginer. By willing to be a bad artist, you hvae a chance to be an artist, and perhaps, over time, a very good one - Julia Cameron, The Artistβs Way.
π I'm not creating anything new.
Your job is to steal good ideas. And the more you collect, the more baggage will weigh down your work.
My Are.na contains all my theft.
π I don't have what all successful people in my field have.
Messi wasn't picked initially due to his height, but he turned his height into his advantage. I always feared that all other designers could draw, and I couldn't. In the end, learned to delegate orders to illustrators because of it and I turned to Figma, which I love and consider my main tool.
π All billionaires at 20, and I'm not.
Maybe this isn't what you really want? Or perhaps it's just not the right time? Maybe it's for the best? But one thing I know for sure." slowly is the fastest way to get where you want to be.
π Artificial intelligence will take away my job.
π Everyone around is accomplishing everything, and I'm just being lazy.
Slow Down, find a quiet place and create time for solitude so you can hear yourself. Itβs so noisy out there - Frank Chimero
π I took on a creative project, and in the end, I didn't like it at all.
Now you know exactly what you won't be doing. It seems you're more inclined towards something more systematic. Maybe it's time to start looking for projects in the IT sphere where you might find success.
And so on. There is no field where everything is always perfect, where everyone admires you and you're a star. But the job doesn't make you unique. You make the job unique. Burnout can help us discover new horizons in life and career.
The key is to listen to yourself, not just rejecting everything that has become tiresome. Try to understand the essence of the problem and find a new solution. Of course, don't forget about rest, spend time with loved ones, and try to meet up with friends more often.
